Two gangs of auto thieves busted, 15 two-wheelers seized

NEW DELHI: The police have busted a gang of auto thieves who stole just for fun and seized 15 two-wheelers from them. Five people, including two minors, have been nabbed.

The police claimed that they were part of two gangs of auto thieves. The gang members told the police that they used to steal bikes and scooters “for fun”. They said they stole the two-wheelers and used to go on a ride.

They kept a vehicle with them till fuel lasted. After that they abandoned the vehicle and left.

Police said two auto-lifters were part of the first gang and they targeted vehicles in the Ashok Vihar area. Nine vehicles were seized from them.

Three others, two of whom are minors, formed the second gang. They operated in Swaroop Nagar area. Six two-wheelers were recovered from them.

The first gang was busted when the two members were stopped for routine checking at a police picket in Wazirpur Industrial Area on Sunday. They were riding a red Pulsar bike. They were detained for questioning after they failed to show the registration certificate and other documents.

“They said they had stolen the motorcycle from Netaji Subhash Place on July 15. They said they operated as a gang and stole two-wheelers from the adjoining areas for fun. At their instance, five motorcycles and four scooties were recovered from Shamshan Ghat Shakurpur, Bhalswa Jheel and Mukraba Chowk areas,” DCP (northwest) Vijay Singh said.

Three other auto- lifters were detained when they did not stop at a police picket. They were riding a scooty and cautioned to stop at a police picket at Ganda Nala in Swaroop Nagar area. They tried to speed away but were detained after a chase. The trio confessed to have stolen the scooty and six other vehicles were recovered from their possession.
