1,000 people left homeless

At least 1,000 people were rendered homeless after a fire gutted around 300 slums on Mata Sundari Road on Sunday night.

"It took more than two hours for 27 fire tenders to douse the flames," said a fire department officer. However, no one was injured in the incident.

The authorities have erected a temporary shelter to house the homeless. But for the residents, it's too little as they have lost everything to the blaze. The police are probing the cause of the fire.
