15-year-old sets himself on fire, dies

A 15-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by setting himself on fire in RK Puram area in South Delhi on Thursday afternoon.

A 15-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by setting himself on fire in RK Puram area in South Delhi on Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place around 1:30 pm when the boy was alone at home, police said.

The boy, T. Sumit, was under depression and was apparently lagging behind in his studies.

“He was a native of Andhra Pradesh lived in RK Puram with his parents. He was suffering from depression and was being treated at AIIMS,” said a senior police office.

On Thursday, Sumit allegedly poured kerosene and set him himself on fire.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to burn injuries, the police said.

Sumit’s father T. Suresh Kumar works as a peon at a nearby private school.
