A 16-year-old girl, believed to be depressed over her parents’ separation, committed suicide by shooting herself with her grandfather’s licensed gun in Palam on Wednesday night.

Sources said the girl lived with her father and paternal grandparents.

According to police, the incident took place around 10.30 pm on Wednesday. No suicide note, however, was recovered from the spot. “We believe that the girl was depressed because of her parents’ separation. Her mother had taken her brother and left her behind to take care of her father and his parents around two months ago,” a senior police officer said. Sources said the father of the victim rushed to her room as soon as he heard gunshots and found her lying in a pool of blood.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declard her brought dead. In a separate incident, a 38-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself in Mangolpuri on Wednesday night. According to the police, Saroj (38) used to live with her husband Rajendra Singh in Q-Block area of Mangolpuri.

“The woman was depressed as she had not been keeping well for a long time. She consumed poison and died while being rushed to a hospital. Her body was later sent to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem,” a police officer said.
