2 burglaries in west Delhi; DU deputy dean’s house hit

Unidentified burglars struck two west Delhi homes, including that of a deputy dean at the Delhi University (DU) and fled with cash and jewellery amounting to more than Rs 9 lakh, police said on Sunday.

The first incident was reported from DU deputy dean Gurpreet Singh Tuteja’s residence in Ambika Vihar.

“We left for the Gurudwara at 1:30pm and discovered it when we returned at 8:45pm. The entire first floor has been completely ransacked. A security guard even saw them taking away my new television set and laptop,” said Tuteja.

During questioning, the said security guard told police that the assailants had told him that they were taking Tuteja’s appliances away for repair.

“Tuteja claims that the robbers had fled with cash and valuables amounting to more than R5 lakh from the house. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter,” an officer said.

A similar incident was reported from a property dealer’s residence in Vikaspuri.

“A gang of unidentified men barged into the residence of Satish Chauhan, when he was at his office in the same area and his wife had gone to visit her parents at Faridabad. We were informed when the couple returned home at 11pm,” said an officer. Police said the couple discovered that cash and valuables amounting to more than Rs 30 lakh were missing from their residence.

“They noticed that a window had been broken open and the entire house ransacked. They told us that cash and jewellery worth around R30 lakh was missing. We are investigating the matter from all angles,” the officer added.
