21-yr-old married BTech student commits suicide

A 21-year-old engineering student died after he set himself on fire in front of his wife’s house in Jamia Nagar area on Wednesday afternoon.

A 21-year-old engineering student died after he set himself on fire in front of his wife’s house in Jamia Nagar area on Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the student, identified as Akash (goes by his first name), was a fourth year BTech student at Manav Rachana University in Faridabad.

“He had come to meet his wife, Sheetal (name changed) who lives in Shaheen Bagh area on Wednesday morning. They spend some time together but around 2pm Akash poured kerosene and set himself on fire,” said a senior police officer.

Police said the couple were studying in same the university and fell in love with each other. They even got married two years ago. “They started living together in Sarita Vihar area but the relationship soured after few months. About one-and-half-month ago Sheetal decided to shift to Shaheen Bagh,” the officer added. Both are natives of Jamshedpur.

“We have called the family members to verify whether they were aware of the marriage or not,” officer further said. The body has been preserved and police is waiting for victim’s family to conduct the post-mortem.
