A 23-year-old worker lost his life and another was injured after a welding cylinder exploded at a Delhi Jal Board construction site near Kangra Niketan in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri on Monday, police said.

According to police, the incident took place around noon and the deceased was identified as Saddam Hussain, a native of Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
The injured worked, identified as Mohammad Shakir, also hailed from Muzaffarpur.
According to police, the victims along with other workers were laying a sewage pipeline of the Delhi Jal Board in the area when the incident took place.
“Eyewitnesses told us that the victims were busy doing welding work when the cylinder exploded. Both of them suffered critical burn injuries and were rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital where Hussain succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Shakir was discharged in the evening after medical attention,” said a police officer.
“A case under sections 336 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the unknown persons,” the officer said adding investigations into the matter are on. Hussain’s body was handed over to his family members after post mortem examination, the officer added.
