Of the 240 fresh cases reported on Tuesday, the national capital accounted for a whopping 120 cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh (29) and Maharashtra (30), the health ministry said.

The total number of those afflicted by the disease has reached 24,210. The total numbers of deaths are 793.

All fresh infections reported during the day are indigenous cases.

Till yesterday, samples of 10,005841 people have been tested for swine flu in government laboratories and a few private laboratories across the country and 22.8 per cent of them have been found positive.

Quoting delayed reports, the ministry said four deaths were also reported from Karnataka yesterday, including that of a 10-year-old boy and a 41-year-old woman at private hospitals in Mysore. Two more men, a 35 year-old and a 49 year-old also died at private hospitals there, it said.

"All the four patients, who were suffering from other complications, also tested positive for swine flu," the ministry said.
