The station, to be built on the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor, will get a direct connectivity to the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station and the ISBT at Sarai Kale Khan through dedicated entry and exit points, said Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials.

“The entry and exit points at Sarai Kale Khan will be inside the ISBT complex while at Hazrat Nizamuddin, the same will be within 50m of the station complex,” said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson of the DMRC.

Currently, the Anand Vihar ISBT Metro station, the Anand Vihar ISBT bus terminal and the railway station are located next to each other but not directly connected.

The Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro station will be an important station from the connectivity point of view as both — the Railway station and the Sarai Kale Khan ISBT — currently do not have any Metro connectivity.

The nearest Metro stations are at least three to four kilometres away.

As per the detailed project report, about 53,370 people are expected to use the station by 2016 when construction under phase 3 is scheduled to be completed.

“By 2021 (after completion phase 4), more than 72,000 commuters will use the station every day,” said DMRC spokesperson.

Hazrat Nizamuddin is the third biggest railway station of the national Capital after

New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations. Most south-bound trains, including Rajdhani and other superfast trains originate from here.

The station is also the origin point for many trains having destinations to major Indian cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Kochi, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Pune, Indore, Bhopal, Lucknow and Hyderabad among other cities.

The Sarai Kale Khan ISBT is also one of three major bus terminals of the Capital along with Kashmere Gate and Anand Vihar. Buses for various

places in Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh originate from here.
