5 Bikers rob gold worth Rs 12 lakh

A 51-year-old jeweller who was on his way to his east Delhi residence after purchasing gold from Chandni Chowk’s Kucha Mahajani was beaten and robbed by five unidentified persons on Monday night, police said.

A 51-year-old jeweller who was on his way to his east Delhi residence after purchasing gold from Chandni Chowk’s Kucha Mahajani was beaten and robbed by five unidentified persons on Monday night, police said. According to police, the incident took place near the Geeta Colony flyover around 9pm when the victim, identified as Sunil Verma, was on his way to his home in Gandhi Nagar.

“He was stopped by five men riding on two bikes near the Geeta Colony flyover before they beat him up and fled with the bag containing gold jewellery worth Rs12 lakh,” said a senior police officer. Police said they were informed about the incident by passersby and Verma was rushed to the Sushruta Trauma Centre immediately.

“We believe he was being followed by the assailants as he left the north Delhi area. A case has been registered and investigations are underway,” the officer added.
