The Global economic meltdown and job cuts don’t seem to be dissuading students from joining management courses. On Sunday, around 55,000 students in Delhi took the Common Admission Test (CAT) for India’s top B-schools, an increase from 50,000 last year.

Nationally, there was a jump of 10.78 per cent in the number of applications. “Last year, 2.41 lakh candidates took the exam. This year, 2.68 lakh admit cards were distributed,” said an official from IIM-Lucknow.

“Global recession has encouraged more people to sit for the exam because the fear of losing their jobs has convinced them to equip themselves with better skills,” said Jaideep Singh Chowdhury, spokesman, T.I.M.E coaching institute.
