9 months later, no progress in Akkriti Bhatia death case

Vipin and Vani Bhatia are waiting for answers nine months after their 17-year-old daughter Akkriti, a commerce student at Modern School, Vasant Vihar, died of an asthma attack, reports Karan Choudhury.

Vipin and Vani Bhatia are waiting for answers nine months after their 17-year-old daughter Akkriti, a commerce student at Modern School, Vasant Vihar, died of an asthma attack.

Parents had accused the school of negligence after which an inquiry was ordered.

Not much progress has been made since then.

Delhi Police said they were still waiting for the medical report, which was to be given by a panel of doctors looking into the matter.

"We will take action based on the findings of the report," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) HGS Dhaliwal.

Police said without the medical panel’s report, they would not be able to go ahead with the case.

But the Bhatias are convinced that the police have all the leads, but are not doing anything about it.

“Four months ago, the police had shown us the full report. We have been running from pillar to post to get justice,” said Vani Bhatia. “All we want is that no other child suffers the way our daughter did.”

She said the teachers who were suspended after the case were back at work. “How can they allow such people to continue working in the school?
