AAP govt’s education, health reforms farcical, says Maken

Maken said during two years’ tenure of the AAP government, dropouts in government schools have increased and number of hospital beds has come down.

The Delhi Congress on Friday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is not disseminating information and statistics about its schemes and development projects as it wants to conceal its ‘failure’ and ‘inefficiency’.

Maken said during two years’ tenure of the AAP government, dropouts in government schools have increased and number of hospital beds has come down.

Party’s state unit president Ajay Maken said tall claims made by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal about reforms in various sectors, especially in health and education, are farcical. Maken was speaking at function held to release a report ‘Chargesheet - Vishwasghaat Ke Two Saal (Two Years of Betrayal)’ against the AAP government on Friday. The 42-page document prepared by the Delhi Congress largely focused on education and health schemes.

“They had proposed a 70-point agenda before the elections, but have not started working even on one. No development is visible in the city. Kejriwal himself claims the originator of RTI and his government is preventing people to check their performance. The government has shut down its website on the second anniversary of his government,” Maken said.

The Congress leader said contrary to its claim on education and health sectors, both the fields were adversely affected because Kejriwal and his party are not serious about Delhi. “Students are leaving government schools. Education is simply a publicity stunt for AAP. Apart from reduction in number of students, the board exam results have been the worst in recent years. Additional hospital bed growth has come down. The city witnessed worst ever dengue and chikungunya epidemic last year,” he said.

Maken also claimed that the ‘much-vaunted’ mohalla clinics project was a ‘dud’ as it caters to only 0.8 per cent of the total Outpatient Department share of the city’s health care facilities. “Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General, would not have praised the initiative had he been aware of the facts,” he said, referring to praise of The Elders, an Annan-led global body.

The government has recently announced that 1,000 such clinics would come up in the city in the next four to five months. Around 107 clinics are operational at the moment.

Referring to the file related to the proposal of MLA salary hike returned by the Centre, the Congress leader said Kejriwal and his party is no more an ‘aam aadmi’ party but it has become a ‘khaas’ party.

“Before coming to power, they in their affidavits mentioned they won’t take bungalows, won’t use cars and they shall end the VIP culture. Now, they are demanding salary hike and money for offices and cars,” he said.
