'Ad spent on Rajiv's birth anniversary could have gone to Leh'

Expressing concern over the plight of Leh cloudburst victims, a BJP Rajya Sabha member on Friday said funds being spent on advertisements on Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary could have been used for the affected people.

Expressing concern over the plight of Leh cloudburst victims, a BJP Rajya Sabha member on Friday said funds being spent on advertisements on Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary could have been used for the affected people. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Prabhat Jha (BJP) said crores of rupees have been spent on advertisements on Gandhi's anniversary on Friday. It was better "if this money was sent to children of Leh," he said amid protests from Congress members. Through another mention P Rajeev (CPI-M) demanded release of salaries for railway staff in Kerala ahead of the Onam festival. He said except Railway Ministry, staff of all other central government departments have been paid salaries in advance as per the direction of the Finance Ministry. Bhalchandra Mungekar (Nominated) expressed concern over growing number of atrocities on SC/STs in different parts of the country. The Act for prevention of atrocities against SC/ST communities should be implemented in right earnest, he said.
