Finally, the 23-km airport metro’s two stations —Dhaula Kuan and Aerocity — are set to open at noon on Monday, six months behind schedule.
The two stations that were to be operational within a few days after opening of the corridor on February 23, got a safety clearance from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety two days ago.
With this, the Airport Metro Express will run a full-fledged service that includes a total of six stations. However, baggage check-in facilities at Dhaula Kuan will start later.
Dhaula Kuan will cater to defence personnel, college students, five-star hotel guests and inter-state passengers.
Aerocity station on National Highway 8 will cater to residents of Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Mahipalpur and domestic fliers wanting to board flights from Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, he added.
“With the opening of the entire corridor, Delhiites can now have a respite from daily road traffic and experience a safer, faster, reliable and eco-friendly mode of transport,” said Anil P Gupta, president, Reliance Infrastructure.
