Profession: Rai was a newscaster for Doordarshan for many years. She has also produced many documentaries and short films. She is also associated with some NGOs.

Education: Masters in Public Administration from the Himachal University. “I got married just after my graduation,” she said.

Political Career: Rai belongs to a family of freedom fighters and her father, mother and brothers were always involved in active politics. She fought her first election against Madan Lal Khurana from Moti Nagar in 1993 and lost. “I knew I would lose but my party had asked me to fight him and it was duty to do so,” she said. She won elections later after shifting to the Paharganj constituency.

Family: Husband Deepak Rai is a businessman and so is their elder son. Rai’s younger son is a corporate lawyer.

cars: Rai said she doesn’t own a car but all other family members have their personal cars.
