According to police, the miscreants had planned to take away the cash after breaking into the machine.

When they failed to do that, they tried to uproot the ATM but could not succeed. The incident took place at a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM on Lucknow Road in Timarpur. Police said that the matter came to light around 6 am, after a customer went in to withdraw money and found the machine in disarray.

“The customer made a PCR call and informed the police about the matter. After which, a police team reached the spot and found that miscreants had smashed the machine and tried to penetrate the locker to take out cash. However, they failed to do that and the cash inside was safe,” he added.

Police said the ATM does not have any guards posted outside it, at night. Similar incidents have been reported in the recent past in Shahdara and Greater Noida.
