Another police complaint against Lalit Modi

On Sunday, the Nagrik Morcha (Rajasthan) district president Sandeep Batra lodged a police complaint against Modi for allegedly handing over a fake cheque of Rs six crore for victims of the Jaipur serial blasts, report Sachin Saini & P Srinivasan.

On Sunday, the Nagrik Morcha (Rajasthan) district president Sandeep Batra lodged a police complaint against Modi for allegedly handing over a fake cheque of Rs six crore for victims of the Jaipur serial blasts.

This is the second case that has been filed against Modi in Rajasthan in less than a month. In January, a police complaint was lodged against the IPL chief for forgery in a land case in Nagaur.

Morcha state convener Pandit Suresh Mishra said the First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at Jyoti Nagar police station in Jaipur. “An FIR has been registered against Modi by Morcha under sections 420 and 467 of the Indian Penal Code. Our investigation has started,” confirmed investigative officer Net Ram Sharma.

Senior advocate Vijay Yadav said Modi would have to apply for anticipatory bail, as section 467 is a non-bailable offence.

According to Mishra, Modi gave the cheque to then chief minister Vasundhara Raje after the blasts, which took place on May 13, 2008, killing 80 people. “Modi has made a fool of Jaipur residents and handed over a fake cheque. This has been done in connivance with the then chief minister,” Mishra alleged.

Till date, the cheque has neither been deposited nor have victims received the money, he added.
