Applicants face choice between college and course

Prominent among these colleges were LSR, Sri Venkateswara and JMC. All of them saw students in large numbers return without taking admission. These students now face the crucial choice between course and college, given the significant rise in cut-offs this year.

“I secured 95.5% in boards and was looking forward to doing economics (honours) in LSR. But I did not make it to the cut-off mark. It’s very disappointing because despite a score like this, I now have to seek admission in some other college if I want to study the subject of my choice,” said Anisha Jalan, an LSR applicant.

For most students, it is the college brand name that carries maximum value instead of the course. They are now looking at seeking admission in a different course in these colleges and then migrate to a course of their choice.

“I am now applying for BA (programme) and will later switch to B.Com (honours). It is very important for me to have the college brand name and I’m not willing to settle for a lower college,” said Diksha Negi (name changed), another LSR applicant.

At other colleges like JMC and Sri Venkateswara, students were making similar choices to seek admission in the first cut-off list itself. “I’m not going to wait for another list. So I will apply in any of the humanities courses offered by the college because things are very unpredictable this year,” said Mary Thomas, a JMC applicant.
