The victim, Jaspreet Kaur (25), was allegedly murdered by her husband Harpal Singh (36) in her beauty parlour in northwest Delhi’s Rani Bagh area. Singh was arrested from his relative's residence in west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area, police said. The accused allegedly killed his wife in an inebriated condition.

Kaur was living separately for the past three months as her husband refused to quit his habit of consuming drugs and
alcohol.

The couple, who were in a relationship right from schooldays, had married against the wishes of their families, police said.

Romil Baniya, additional DCP (northwest), said Singh told the police that his wife objected to his habit of consuming drugs and alcohol and it was the reason for most of their quarrels. He alleged that the victim even stopped him from meeting their children.

“Singh was ashamed and went to his wife’s parlour on Sunday evening and asked for forgiveness. Suddenly, he took out a chopper and attacked her on the head, face and neck,” said Baniya, adding that Kaur succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. He, then, went into hiding and was arrested on a tip-off.
