Yoga guru Ramdev today accused the government of trying to suppress the proposed Satyagraha by Anna Hazare on the Lokpal issue from Tuesday, terming the alleged attempts to do so as unconstitutional.
"The efforts of this government to supress the people's movement is totally unconstitutional, undemocratic and irresponsible," Ramdev said in a statement referring to the Gandhian's proposed indefinite fast starting on August 16 for an effective legislation to curb corruption.
The government tries to malign those who raise their voice against corruption or talk about bringing back blackmoney stashed abroad, he said.
"Be it Anna Hazare or anyone else, the government instead of taking any step maligns him which is very unfortunate," said Ramdev, who was evicted from Delhi's Ramlila Maidan in June while observing a fast in protest against blackmoney and corruption.
Congress on Sunday upped the ante against Anna Hazare and asked him to come clean on allegations of corruption, citing the Sawant Commission probe report.
The 74-year old anti-graft crusader dared the ruling party to prove the charges or he will continue with the fast even if civil society's version of Lokpal bill was cleared in Parliament.
