Aviation: career ladder

While a trainee pilot gets Rs 20,000 as a stipend, junior co-pilots and senior co-pilots get Rs 1.25 lakhs and Rs. 1.75 lakhs respectively.

Trainee Pilot
Out of flying school with a commercial license. Trainees either pay for training cost or sign a five-year bond if the cost is borne by the airline.
Pay: Rs 20,000 (stipend)

Junior co-pilot
Flies commercial aircraft under the guidance of a captain.
Pay: Rs 1.25 Lakh

Senior co- pilot
Has Aircraft Transport Pilot (ATP) License, a higher one than a commercial flier one, and flies more hours.
Pay: Rs 1.75 Lakh

Commander
Has ATP license and more than 3,000 hours of flying as a co-pilot. Has completed all other required training.
Pay: Rs 3.45 Lakh

Cabin Crew
Trainee: Rs 18,000
Crew (domestic): Rs 25,000-37,000
Crew (international): Rs 40,000-60,000
In-flight manager: Rs 37,000-67,000
(domestic), Rs 60,000-90,000 (international)
