Azhagiri gets chemicals and fertilizers, Raja retains communications an IT

The DMK, the third largest party in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), on Thursday got three key portfolios of communications and information technology, textiles, and chemicals and fertilizers.

The DMK, the third largest party in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), on Thursday got three key portfolios of communications and information technology, textiles, and chemicals and fertilizers.

DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's son M.K. Azhagiri is minister of chemicals and fertilizers, while grandnephew Dayanidhi Maran is textiles minister.

Raja, who faced corruption charges over the spectrum allocation issue, retained the communications and IT portfolio.

The DMK has also been allocated four positions of minister of state (MoS).

Filmstar-turned-politician D. Napoleon is MoS in the social justice and empowerment ministry while S. Jagathrakshakan is MoS in the information and broadcasting ministry.

S. Gandhiselvan is MoS in the health and family welfare ministry. DMK's S.S. Palanimanickam, who was the MoS in the finance ministry in the previous Manmohan Singh government, retains the portfolio.
