Doctors treating her at the hospital were relieved to see her back to her normal self. “She is stable; we have repaired her genitals; her wounds have healed and the infection is gone completely,” said Dr Shilpa Sharma, paediatric surgeon at the Trauma Centre who was among the first to examine her when she was brought to the hospital.

“She was shivering with fear, so much so that she didn’t allow any of us to touch her. We were very disturbed to see her condition and are glad that she has come out of it,” she added.

For four days, she had not spoken to anyone in the hospital. It was only on the fifth day that she started talking to the paediatric counselors called from AIIMS.

“We had to tell her that those who had hit her would be punished. She seems to have come out of the trauma,” said a doctor.

The girl was brought to the hospital on the evening of April 26.

Doctors at the hospital had to perform a life-saving surgery that took nearly three hours. The girl had a sharp cut on her neck that had exposed her vocal cords.

The girl had similar injuries on her private parts similar to the 5-year-old rape victim who was being treated at AIIMS.

“There was severe damage to the anal canal and we had to perform colostomy to create space for passing stool, apart from dressing the wounds to contain infection and clean dead tissues,” said Dr MC Misra, chief, Trauma Centre.

The hospital authorities informed officials of the Child Welfare Committee before discharging the girl.

The girl will return to the hospital three days later for a follow up.

“After that, we will call her weekly and then monthly. One minor surgery will be performed a couple of months later to close the colostomy,” said Dr Sharma.
