According to police, Praveen Kumar (18), a gold medallist basketball player, and Deepak Prakash (16) had boarded the train from Rohtak along with two of their friends. All four are basketball players and hail from Jind in Haryana.

Just before the train reached Mangolpuri Railway Station, the two boys went to the door to alight at the station to buy a few eatables. "While they were standing at the door, they somehow slipped and were run over by a train. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead," said a senior police officer.

Their bodies were later shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem.

The police said that the four sportspersons were on their way to the Capital to visit a market near Red Fort that is set up on Republic Day. Sportsmen normally attend this market to buy sports equipment.
