While one shopkeeper sustained serious injuries when two bikers shot at him in the Lajpat Nagar area of southeast Delhi, another man had a close shave with death in a similar incident of firing reported from Mandi House area.

The police are still clueless about the motive behind both the attacks.

"Two unidentified men opened fire at 52-year-old Vijay Kumar Abbi at 10.15pm on Sunday night and fled. We have taken the victim’s statement and are investigating the incident," Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police (southeast), said. The victim's family said Abbi didn't have any personal enmity with anyone.

Abbi, who owns a shop at Kailash Super Store near Iskcon Temple, was leaving for his home in Vinoba Puri near Lajpat Nagar, when he was attacked. Even after receiving bullet injuries, he went to the hospital on his own. "One biker was wearing a helmet and the other assailant's face was covered. Abbi managed to go to Moolchand Hospital on his own," said Pappi, Abbi's brother.

In the second incident that took place around 11pm, Mohammad Ansari was attacked by two bikers who fired three bullets at him.

"He managed to escape, as the bullets hit his car. He approached the nearby PCR van and we have registered a case of attempt to murder. The reason behind the attack is yet to be known," KC Dwivedi, additional commissioner of police (New Delhi) said.

The victim, who owns three shops at Gandhi Market, was on his way to his Ghaziabad house when he was attacked. "He was not carrying much cash and in his statement he told the police that he returns late in night almost every day and generally takes the same route. He didn't have any personal enmity," Dwivedi added.

Police said three bullets were fired at Ansari of which two hit the car and another was shot in the air.
