The Opposition has come down heavily on the Delhi government for proposing a bailout package for power distribution companies.
Senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra criticised the Delhi government for proposing to give R500 crore to the BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and Yamuna Power Limited to help them repay their outstanding bills to power generating companies.
“This money belongs to the people of the state and should be put to use to social purposes in making their lives better and easier in these hard times instead of being put to use for profitable industrial houses,” said Malhotra, leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly.
On Wednesday, a meeting was held to discuss the possibility of a bailout package for the two defaulting discoms. Sources said the government has been mulling over the issue, and a final decision is likely to be taken soon.
The discoms were served showcause notices by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) on November 25 regarding their license suspension for failing to pay dues to various power generation and transmission companies.
