A meeting of the MCD saw an uproar over the issue with BJP councillors raising slogans and displaying placards. The opposition Congress, on the other hand, came out in defence of the Commissioner and flayed the BJP. The meeting had to be adjourned due to the ruckus.

The hoardings against the government's power tariff policy have already led to bitter acrimony between BJP and Congress with Dikshit slapping a defamation notice on Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta and the latter accusing the chief minister of acting in an "undemocratic" manner.

At a meeting of MCD House on Tuesday, the Municipal Commissioner said the posters were pulled down under the Mayor's orders to act against illegal advertisements. BJP has, however, accused him of trying to "mislead" the House.

"The posters put up the BJP were in no way illegal or unauthorised and were deliberately removed without giving any prior notification after coming under the influence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit," Standing Committee Chairman Yogender Chandolia said.

"We would also be approaching the LG in this matter and urge him to direct the Commissioner to work in public interest and not vested interests," he said.

Leader of Opposition JK Sharma said, "We regret that the ruling BJP decided to disrupt the proceedings of the Standing Committee by displaying placards and shouting slogans against the Commissioner who is working day and night to address civic problems in the city."
