Police said Arora had borrowed the car from his friend and was coming from Maulana Azad Medical College, where he is doing his internship. The accident took place at the Bhagwan Das Road -Tilak Marg crossing traffic signal. The investigation revealed that Arora had jumped the traffic signal and hit the Eeco on the driver's seat side.
"The medical test confirmed that he was not drunk and was heading towards India Gate with his friends after having dinner. Eyewitnesses told that he was speeding," a senior police officer said.
Rafiq, the victim, had been thrown out of the van through the windscreen, such was the impact of the hit. His family members had alleged that instead of booking Arora under harsh sections of law, police officers at the Tilak Marg police station treated him and his relatives like guests. Rafiq used to pick an employee of a mall from Vasant Kunj and drop him at his house in Mandawali daily.
Rafiq, a native of Siwan district in Bihar, lived with his wife and five children at a rented accommodation in Mandawali area. He used to run the van for a Noida school, as well.
