Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in its third phase of expansion, is going to expand the Anand Vihar Metro station — within 50 metres of the railway station — into a major interchange complex in order to boost connectivity.

The area is a transport hub that boasts of a railway station and an inter-state bus terminus.

"The interchange facility at Anand Vihar Metro station will enable passengers getting off from trains to take the

Metro to almost all corners of the city. Besides, the bus terminus at Anand Vihar that connects Delhi with many neighbouring states including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will also immensely benefit from the interchange station," said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson of DMRC.

The Anand Vihar ISBT Metro station is connected to Line 4 (Yamuna Bank - Vaishali) corridor of the Metro network. In 2016, the station will have connectivity to areas in north Delhi such as Azadpur and Mukundpur, West Delhi localities of Punjabi Bagh and Rajouri Garden, south Delhi destinations of South Extension, Lajpat Nagar and Ashram and east Delhi areas such as Mayur Vihar and Trilokpuri.

The railway station at Anand Vihar is also fast becoming an extremely important railway station as it is all set for its next phase of expansion.

"All east-bound trains now start from Anand Vihar. Besides, special trains, including those running during winters and summers and festive seasons, are being started from here. Interchange facility at the Metro station would be a huge boon for passengers getting off from trains. The railway station that presently registers about 50,000 daily footfall would record over 1.5 lakh footfall in a couple of years," said Aswini Lohani, divisional railway manager, Delhi division.

As per the detailed project report prepared by the DMRC for Phase 3, 16,000 more commuters will be added to the total ridership at this station in 2016. At present, about 24,000 passengers use this station every day, DMRC officials said.
