‘Can’t examine all riots cases’

The Supreme Court on Wednesday made it clear to the petitioners seeking implementation of Srikrishna Commission report on Mumbai riots that it would only examine the major violations and issue some general directions. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan said: “We can’t examine each and every case.”

Rejecting the plea of some of the petitioners for direction to the Maharashtra government to furnish certain additional documents, the court said it would confine itself only to the joint affidavit filed by them.

The court said collecting government documents and dumping them in the court would not lead anywhere. It fixed January 22, 2008 to hear the Action Committee for Implementation of Srikrishna Commission and other petitioners, who have filed a joint affidavit detailing the directions they wanted to be issued.
