The office of the chief electoral officer, Delhi, has decided to employ innovative ways to encourage this group to come forward and vote during this assembly election.
“We have decided on 12 sets of audience and first among them are the young adults (18-29 years) who don’t consider voting a priority. We plan to target this group through a jingle which would be played on FM stations, TV commercials and print media apart from putting up hoardings on strategic locations,” said chief election officer Satbir Silas Bedi.
The jingle Pappu can’t vote is based on a popular Bollywood song.
Bedi added that they would also use a slogan ‘Take Pride, Do vote — Make a Difference’ to encourage the young voters. “This slogan is targeted at those who don’t think seriously about voting,” said Bedi.
Talking to some youngsters, Hindustan Times found many think that voting is their moral responsibility.
“I don’t have to be told about it. I know it’s my responsibility as well as my right. I will definitely go and vote during the elections,” said Antil Yadav, a student of IP University.
