CBI court issues arrest warrant against top med school chairman

The CBI had charged him with transferring a prime plot in Noida to a private group housing society at a fraction of its market value of R70 crore when he was director general of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The CBI said that land measuring around 2.5 acres was allotted by the Noida authority to an affiliate of ICMR, ICPO, for construction of staff quarters in the late 80s in Sector 35, Noida. But no construction took place till 2006.

The CBI had chargesheeted Ganguly along with then director of Institute of Cytology & Preventive Oncology (ICPO), BC Das, former manager in Noida Authority, SC Pabreja and few others in October last year.

While the CBI court sent 10 other accused in the case to judicial custody on February 14, Ganguly, BC Das and one more accused didn’t appear before the court on that day and on the next hearing on February 28. “On the last date of hearing on February 28, the court gave them time till March 12 to appear before it,” said a CBI source. A bailable warrant is pending against him.

Ganguly, however, could not be reached for comments.
