Chain snatching, robberies on rise in NCR

Incidents of chain snatching and robbery appear to be increasing in the National Capital Region (NCR) this year with statistics showing a rise in the rate of such crimes per month as compared to last year.

Incidents of chain snatching and robbery appear to be increasing in the National Capital Region (NCR) this year with statistics showing a rise in the rate of such crimes per month as compared to last year.

A total of 691 chain snatching cases were reported from Delhi and its satellite townships of Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad this year till July 30 while a total of 1,062 similar incidents were reported in the whole of last year.

"While there were around 89 incidents of chain snatching per month last year in the national capital and its three satellite townships, the figure was 99 per month this year so far," a senior police official said.

Similarly, 717 robberies were reported from the region this year so far while a total of 1,114 cases were reported last year. The incidents per month increased from 93 last year to 103 this year.
