The civic agency is going to hold a meeting in this connection on Monday to decide the issue and initiate action against illegal constructions having come up within 100 metres of the Air Force station area in Dabua. “Yes, we are holding a meeting on Monday to discuss the issue of illegal encroachment, as we have to report back to Punjab and Haryana High Court on April 1, along with the action taken report in this connection,” said BS Kaliraman, MCF joint commissioner.

Officials said the court on Thursday gave clear-cut directions to the state government to take action under law against illegal constructions within 100 metres of the Air Force station by March 31, and report back with the action taken report on April 1. “We will first issue notices to all such house owners which as per our estimate come to roughly 15,000,” the joint commissioner said. As per rules, after the first notice, second notice has to follow and after that demolition drive has to be initiated, he added.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has fixed April 1 as the next date of hearing on the PIL filed by Suresh Goel, a social activist, demanding clearing of illegal encroachments around Air Force Station in Dabua. he contended that all such constructions have come up illegally, risking national security.

“I filed the PIL for a national cause. Over 15,000 houses (around one lakh individuals) have come up illegally around the Air Force station area in connivance with the state government officials,” Goel said, adding that he was happy the MCF have started taking action after the court order.
