VK Gulati, engineer-in-chief of Talkatora Stadium which was the venue of boxing for the Commonwealth Games and Shivaji Stadium, was to retire by the end of this month. However, the NDMC claimed that his suspension is a technical requirement.

"The inquiry is still on and if something is found amiss later one can't take action on a person who has retired which is why Gulati has been suspended. It is a technical requirement and not an indictment of the official at all," said Anand Tiwari, spokesman of NDMC.
