"Don't do this, otherwise Commonwealth Games will appear to collapse. I am requesting you with folded hands not to do this," Dikshit said in the Assembly.

Her request came after Opposition Leader V K Malhotra raised the issue of roads caving in and widespread water logging across the city following rains. He said it appears now that no projects will be completed within the final deadline of August 31. "Several areas in the city are facing flood-like situation because of incessant rains," he said while blaming civic agencies for carrying out widespread digging which is resulting in accumulation of concrete waste.

Malhotra also accused the government of not taking the dengue menace seriously. "The national capital will have to face embarrassment during sporting event," he said. Following this, several Congress MLAs rose to defend the government and blamed the BJP-ruled MCD for "failing to complete" construction work and not being able to control dengue.

Dikshit, who intervened after the ensuring uproarious scenes over the issue, requested not to resort to any blame game and asked them to join hands to make the sporting event a success. "There is no need to worry about the rise in Yamuna water levels. We have shifted only five families from the low lying areas. The situation is totally under control. I am not blaming MCD or any other agency. This is not the time for that. We should work together," she said. About dengue, she said 25-35 per cent of the cases has come from outside Delhi and the total dengue cases were not very worrying compared to the city's total population. "We will look after each and every patient. We are launching awareness programme. Situation is under control. We are taking all the required measures," she said. Not satisfied with Dikshit's response, Malhotra accused the government of not taking dengue menace seriously. Even Union Health Minister Azad has blamed construction sites for the spurt in dengue cases but Delhi government is not taking the issue seriously, he said.
