"These organisations should be banned," Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari told reporters in New Delhi.
On the demand by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for a "white paper" on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Tiwari said: "The central government should bring a white paper on all the organisations, including the Bajrang Dal and VHP, that are indulged in anti-national activities."
Slamming the BJP-Biju Janata Dal ruling combine in Orissa, where communal violence has claimed several lives, Tiwari accused Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of being ineffective and of "succumbing to the pressure of BJP to become a party to political polarisation".
