J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah had called the meeting to discuss the current unrest in Kashmir. The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, the National Panthers Party and the Awami National Conference boycotted it.

Besides the deputy chief minister, Congress Legislature Party leader Choudhary Mohammad Aslam had also stayed away from the meet. Their absence was seen as going against the party leadership in the state.

Taking strong note of the development, the party high command summoned Tara Chand to Delhi to seek an explanation from him over his absence.
