The victim thought the man to be a bank employee. The man tricked him and fled with Rs 4 lakh.
According to the police, Kanhaiya Jha and Rajkumar had come to the Sector 18 branch of the bank to deposit Rs 5 lakh.
"I was waiting in the queue to deposit the money, while Rajkumar was waiting outside the bank. A person told me that I was standing in the wrong queue. I thought he might be a bank employee so I shifted to another queue. He then asked me to fill my PAN card details as it was a big amount. While I was doing the paper work, he told me that the bank does not accept currency notes with pins and that I should remove them from two bundles amounting to Rs 1 lakh. I trusted him and gave him Rs 4 lakh to hold. When I returned to collect the money, he was missing," said Kanhaiya Jha.
Jha immediately informed both the police and bank officials about the incident. The police have now taken the CCTV footage to identify the accused.
