The woman, Meenakshi, was the wife of Tej Singh, who is posted as a head constable at an east Delhi police station.
Meenakshi, 36, allegedly used a stone-cutting machine to slit her throat at a construction site near her Burari residence.
"Meenakshi had been undergoing treatment for some mental illness for the past five years. She was married to Tej Singh for 15 years," said a police officer.
Police said the incident was discovered when the owner of the under-construction building, who stays nearby, heard the sound of the stone-cutting machine. Police say the owner told them that Meenaskshi had asked a labourer about how to operate the machine on Friday.
