On June 18, Delhi Police had written to North Delhi Municipal Corporation, informing them about the illegal construction at Kirti Nagar furniture market.

"The civic agency was informed about the illegal construction in a letter on June 18. The letter specifically mentioned the illegal construction going on in the building that collapsed on Tuesday," V Renganathan, additional CP (west) said.

"The engineers who have been alleged with ignoring the letter from the police have been suspended for not taking action. Further enquiry is on," Yogendra Singh Mann, Director (Press and Information), Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
