'Cops must probe cash-query tainted MPs'
The Delhi High Court orders the police to investigate the role of 11 MPs expelled from Parliament and file a chargesheet within 60 days, reports Harish V Nair.
In a new twist in the cash-for-query scam, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered the police to investigate the role of 11 MPs expelled from Parliament and file a chargesheet within 60 days.
The court slammed the police for singling out journalists who had exposed the scandal, leaving out the MPs from the ambit of the probe. “Instead of thanking persons who exposed corruption, if the institution takes action against those who expose it, it amounts to encouraging such misdeeds,” Justice SN Dhingra said.
Only one MP, Chhatrapal Singh Lodha, a Rajya Sabha member, had been named in the FIR and ten Lok Sabha MPs had been left out.
The court directed the police to book all those involved in the offence, including their middlemen.
Eleven MPs were expelled from Parliament in December 2005 after a TV channel showed them taking bribes for asking questions in Parliament.
