Court pulls up DRI officials for ‘abducting’ businessman

A city court summoned 10 officials of Directorate Revenue of Intelligence (DRI), including the Deputy Director for illegal detaining a businessman, and later extorting a confession stating he has evaded duty in excess of Rs 20 crore .

A city court summoned 10 officials of Directorate Revenue of Intelligence (DRI), including the Deputy Director for illegal detaining a businessman, and later extorting a confession stating he has evaded duty in excess of Rs 20 crore .

Harmesh Arora, a businessman based in East of Kailash, was allegedly whisked away by DRI sleuths on October 25, 2009. For the next three days Arora was confined to illegal detention. His phone was switched off and he was not allowed to speak to anybody.

Arora was allegedly beaten up and forced to sign confession stating he and five others evaded duty in excess of Rs 20 crore by creating fraudulent export companies.
