Police claimed to have busted a credit card fraud racket where seven persons including two bank employees and a woman sales representative have been arrested for allegedly cheating credit card customers.

The accused would contact credit card customers on the pretext of renewing them or extending its validity period. “They would take the credit cards from the customers and would destroy them in their presence. Later on they rejoined it and swapped it to the tune of lakhs of rupees with the help of woman sales representative at a store in Connaught Place. She was given a commission for the same,” said H.G.S. Dhaliwal, DCP (south).

Police recovered 85 credit cards, 75 Application forms of credit cards of various customers of different banks, eight cheque books, phone banking passwords and a Zen Estilo Car were recovered from their possession.

The fraud came to light when the Malviya Nagar police received a complaint a few days ago from a businessman Pawan Kumar that two men posing as employees of Citi Bank had come to his house on the pretext that his card needs to be changed.

“The complainant told us that the two men destroyed the old credit card in his presence. However few hours later he got a message on his mobile phone that purchases over Rs 1.6 lakhs had been made from his credit card from a store in Connaught Place. He informed the police and a case was registered,” said the officer.

Plainclothes policemen were deployed at the store and two alleged cheats Mohammad Khalid and Mohammad Safiq were arrested while they were trying to purchase some articles after swapping the credit card.
