Credits for sports, co-curriculars

The move will be part of the DU’s plans to convert three-year undergraduate courses into four-year programmes from next year.

“We want students to feel that the time they are devoting to sports or co-curricular activities is not a waste,” said Dinesh Singh, vice-chancellor, Delhi University. He has received “encouraging responses” on the plan.

The plan may be presented in the academic and executive council’s meeting next month.

Under the plan, students will be given exit options at the end of the second, third and fourth years. “If a student chooses to exit after the second year, she/he will be granted an associate degree. An exit after the third year will get the student a BA/BSc (programme degree). Students who complete all four years will be granted a BA(Hons) degree,” Singh said.

Students who opt out in the second or third year will also have the option to come back and complete the 4-year degree.
