Residents of Defence Colony’s block A have demanded the construction of speed breakers on the 1.5km stretch from Defence Colony flyover to Kotla Mubarakpur intersection. They said speed breakers are the only way to avoid accidents on this road and avert risk to pedestrians.

The 40ft wide road sees less traffic due to which motorists drive at high speed. This road has three entry gates for block A, which has more than 75 houses, while 10 other houses face the main road. Residents said the construction of speed breakers has been a long-standing demand and despite the promises, authorities have not take any action so far. They also claimed that, on an average, three accidents take place on this road in a month. They complained that the government agencies have failed to put precautionary signs to inform motorists about the speed limit on the stretch.

Rajiv Ahuja, a resident, said, “There is a school on this road, yet people drive carelessly. We have been promised speed breakers but there seems to be no action. At least they should install precautionary signs here.”

The situation become particularly dangerous when vehicle exits from the colony and many collisions have been reported here in the past. Residents also complain of bikers riding recklessly at the night. “Although there is no major traffic on the road, a vehicle can come all of a sudden and hit your vehicle,” said Bharat Bagga, another resident.

Area councillor Abhishek Dutt said the installation of speed barriers is already planned and the work is in progress at various locations.
