While driving licenses have been suspended in nearly 2,000 cases, 2,250 traffic violators were sent to prisons to check the menace of drunken driving in the Capital.

"Because of the approach and execution, we have succeeded to a great extent. Our numbers of prosecutions have gone up. In fact this year, it has become the highest ever though more than 3 months remain. Imprisonment has been awarded in a huge number of cases," said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

Garg added, before 2010, offenders were not punished for traffic violations.
