On the inaugural day of Energy Tech and Enviro Tech Fair at Pragati Maidan, NEDO displayed a model of a house equipped with all the essential electrical appliances but powered by its own windmill and a mini composting pit in the backyard.

Also on display was a methanol-powered fuel cell scooter from Yamaha that emits one-fifth the amount of carbon di oxide compared to the typical 150cc petrol-powered scooter. Then there was a multi-utility vehicle with a two-gear manual transmission (forward and reverse) that runs on pure hydrogen.

Indian Climate Summit

While the Japanese pavilion housed the green eye-candy, an Indian version of the ongoing Copenhagen Summit was organised in a quiet corner of Hall 7.

Speakers from around the country participated in ‘Indian Environment Summit 2009: Copenhagen at Pragati Maidan; Sustainable Waste Management’.

Organised by Centre for Environment Education (CCE), the mini summit debated the merits of garbage segregation at source, composting and a public-private partnership (PPP) model as the only solution to effective garbage disposal in urban India.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Subas Pani, CMD, ITPO said, “This event is significant, especially in the backdrop of the global concern on climate change and also in the context of strengthening Indo-Japanese trade relations."
