Security cover

The Delhi Police have deployed over 20,000 policemen, including 5,500 paramilitary forces, to thwart any untoward incident.

The police claimed they were ready to deal with any eventuality. Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said: "We are already on a high alert and taking all precautions in the run-up to the R-Day celebrations."

Checking at borders and night patrolling was intensified and barricades were put up at various interactions. Sniffer dogs were also deployed.

The police also said a massive ground-to-air security apparatus would be put in place for the celebrations. Rajpathwill have a multi-layered security ring.

CCTV Cameras

Nearly 100 CCTV cameras have been placed along the route of the parade; out of these, 22 cameras have been installed along Rajpath alone. Also, 18 CCTV will be installed at the entry points to Rajpath, saluting base and behind the VVIP entry gate. Mobile crack teams, anti-aircraft guns and National Security Guards (NSG) snipers have been deployed at various locations.

Air Space closed

Delhi's airspace will be closed for scheduled airlines or non-scheduled operators between 11.15 am and 12.15 pm on Monday. The step is taken to facilitate the fly past during the Republic Day celebrations.

"The flights that are scheduled to operate during that period will be rescheduled by the airlines. As it is, there is not much air traffic in that period," said a senior airport official. "All domestic and international airlines have been sent notices about the airspace closure much in advance," he said.

Metro security

The Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) has upgraded security cover at the Metro stations. Rohit Katiyar, CISF spokesman, said: "We have increased anti-sabotage checks and bomb disposal checks at all the stations. Our quick reaction teams are on the highest alert. We have also increased CCTV camera surveillance.”
